Email is not a secure upload system. Please do not send Social Security numbers, private addresses of living people, birth certificates, government IDs, medical records, financial records, or unredacted private family documents. If you need to reference a record, describe it briefly or send a public source link when possible.
What to include in a correction request
For corrections or removals, include the page or section involved, what needs to be corrected or removed, and the source that supports the correction when available.
- Ancestor or allottee name, if relevant.
- Tribe or Nation, if known.
- Roll/enrollment number or allotment number, if known.
- Township, range, section, county, or legal description, if known.
- Source link or source description, such as LOC, NARA, county clerk, BIA/LTRO, or tribal archive record.
- Whether the request is a correction, privacy concern, removal request, or volunteer offer.
Volunteer indexing
Volunteers can help transcribe map labels, review township/range pages, verify source links, and flag spelling variants. Public volunteer submissions are not open yet, but the project email can be used to ask about future indexing help.
Privacy rule
Public corrections, stories, and data should not identify living people or reveal private family information unless the person submitting has permission and has expressly consented to publication.
